There are so many different ways to analyze sports trends these days with the wide variety of websites and sports tools on the web. In this step, we'll cover some basic strategies we use while analyzing team or player trends before locking in our bets each day. These strategies will include the use of some of our in-house developed Discord bots, manually checking game-logs, and some third party websites we utilize on a daily basis!

Analyzing Sports Trends

How To Analyze Team Trends

There are ways to make it easier for bettors to decipher what they should and shouldn’t bet on. Being able to analyze and breakdown team trends can help give bettors an edge over the bookies. For instance, if a team is on a long win streak, it may be worth it to stay away from betting on them. As a team continues to pile up consecutive wins, their odds of winning the next game gets smaller. So although it may be enticing to ride a hot team, it may not be an easy of a win as it seems!

Another useful trend is being able to view the line movements in a matchup. This can be a tell who the public is betting on or if there is any impactful information you may have missed. For example, if the Yankees Money Line odds open at -125, and then moves to -175, this could indicate that the majority of the public is betting on the Yankees to win the game. This works with Over/Under bets as well – if a total opens at 9.5 runs and then moved downwards to 8.5 runs, this is an indicator that the public has been betting on the under!

Lastly, it is also helpful to view players and teams split stats, as it can provide their Home/Away record, divisional record, W/L streak, record in the last 10 games, etc. These stats can aid bettors in deciding who you should bet on or if you should stay away from a matchup!

How To Analyze Player Trends

When it comes to player props, there is a lot of different options for bettors to choose from. This means that there is a lot more stats to track and analyze. Thankfully, there are a lot of resources out there that can help you gain an edge over the sportsbooks. Viewing a players Home/Away splits, game logs, last 5 or 15 game averages, can all be a tell for bettors. For instance, if Lebron James is playing a game at home and averages 30 points at home games and his point total is at 27.5, that could be a reason to bet the over on his total points. When looking at a player’s game logs, you can tell if they are on a hot streak or not – if they are on a hot streak, you may be more inclined to even stay away from that player, as they are most likely due to revert back to their mean. However, it can go both ways – in baseball, if a hitter has been batting well in his last 7+ games but hasn’t recorded any hits in the last two games, that can be a reason to bet on them to record a hit in their next game. Learning how to analyze trends can take time, but after getting the hang of it, you can get the upper hand on the bookies!

Every Sport Is Different

There is a different way of analyzing every sport. This means you will often find yourself having a different strategy for each sport. In the NBA, you may look at the team statistics more than an individual player to help determine a winner. But, in the MLB you may want to hone in on a player’s statistics rather than an entire team to determine the winner. In the MLB, you would probably want to look at the pitcher’s ERA and recent performance since they have a larger hand in winning or losing more than one player on a NBA team. Same goes for the NHL, it would be wise to look at how a goalie has performed throughout the season and more recently, since the game is decided by how many goals they do or don’t allow. For the NFL, you may want to look at team statistics because it is more of a team sport. One player’s performance may not impact the entire team’s chance of winning a game as greatly as it does in another sport. Each sport has its own unique betting strategy, so you won’t want to crossover betting tactics from one sport to another!
